On March 7, according to unnamed sources, OpenAI and Oracle (NYSE: ORCL) plan to deploy billions of dollars worth of Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) AI superchips in a new data center in Texas as part of the Stargate infrastructure project.
The sources said that the data center is located in Abilene, Texas, and is expected to house 64,000 Nvidia GB200 superchips by the end of 2026.
The plan will be implemented in phases, and the initial 16,000 chips are expected to be deployed this summer, the person said.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for OpenAI revealed that the startup is collaborating with Oracle to design and develop the Abilene data center, and Oracle is responsible for acquiring and operating the supercomputer there.
Oracle has not responded to requests for comment. Nvidia also declined to comment.
More than a month ago, OpenAI, SoftBank Group Corp., and Oracle announced the Stargate project at a White House event in January this year.
