At the recently held Mobile World Congress (MWC25), CMCC Core , a chip design company under China Mobile, showcased its 5G-A cellular passive Internet of Things (IoT) chip product, CM5610-Alpha, at the exhibition. This technology enables terminal communication through ambient energy harvesting and features low cost and easy deployment.

It is reported that the 5G-A cellular passive IoT technology does not require an external power source or battery. It supports communication standards such as BPSK/ASK and Manchester coding, and its receiving sensitivity is better than that of traditional technologies. With an on-chip reflective amplifier, the communication distance can reach over 50 meters, and the power consumption in the receiving state is only in the order of hundreds of microwatts. Currently, the technical standard for this technology is being developed by 3GPP. It is expected that the R19 version will be frozen by the end of 2025, and commercialization will start in 2026.

In 2024, CMCC Core assisted in the pilot verification of the 5G-A passive IoT project, laying the foundation for large-scale application. This exhibition aims to promote the application of domestic chips in the 5G-A era. In the future, it will continue to cooperate with industry partners to advance standard setting and ecosystem construction.
